Dental crowns are a simple and effective way of addressing a variety of dental problems. For those who have experienced broken teeth or deep decay, dental crowns can save your tooth and prevent any further degradation. They fit over the top of existing teeth and reinforce their structure. They can be an excellent way of stopping any existing damage in their tracks and can typically be fitted with only minimal discomfort or time-commitment.
For those experiencing the trouble that can come with damaged or decayed teeth, dental crowns offer an inexpensive and easy way to restore your smile. The use of high-quality materials to mimic the colour and texture of the natural tooth so your restoration blends in seamlessly. Strong, long-lasting dental crowns are made to absorb the force of chewing so that your tooth is fully functional again.
Dental crowns tend to be well-suited in the following situations:
- Rebuilding a tooth that has become worn or weak because a large dental filling has begun to fail
- Holding a dental bridge into place
- Improving the appearance of a tooth that has become stained or discoloured
- Protecting a tooth that has become brittle following a root canal procedure
- Providing the finishing touch for a dental implant
- Reshaping a tooth that has an irregular appearance
Dental crowns are typically quite easy to fit and won’t require multiple appointments with your dentist like other procedures. At LN Dental, we use state-of-the-art computer-assisted design software (TRIOS technology) that allows us to take scans of your tooth and cut time and discomfort out of the process.
This technology eliminates the need for unpleasant dental impressions; it also provides us with a more accurate mould of your tooth so that your new crown will fit precisely.
The scan is sent to our in-house milling machine, which fabricates your new crown in about 15 minutes—while you wait. Once it is ready, Dr. Nhan can immediately cement it into place. The entire process will take about an hour and a half from start to finish, and it can all be completed in just one appointment at our clinic.
A dental bridge also fills in the gap left by missing teeth by attaching to the healthy teeth on either side of the space. One of the major drawbacks of a dental bridge is that the two teeth to which the bridge is attached will need to be reshaped, even if they are otherwise healthy. This is to accommodate the dental crowns that attach to the bridge, holding it into place.
Dental crowns are typically less expensive than a variety of other procedures – particularly those that require more invasive work to take place. The initial cost of having a dental crown fitted will also help those experiencing trouble with their teeth to halt or slow the progress of issues that may cost a great deal more to fix down the line.
